Working out is one of the most positive things you can do for your health, and the benefits show not just in better energy levels and improved immunity but also in the glow of healthy skin. But sometimes the way we exercise and take care of our skin afterwards can have a negative impact on our skin – here’s how to avoid that.
Take your own towel
If you use towels provided by your gym, they may not have been properly cleaned; if you think wiping with someone else’s sweat on the towel is bad enough, think about the bacteria! Professionally cleaned towels may have been washed with harsh chemicals that can lead to skin reactions. Better to take your own towel and play it safe.
Always wear sunscreen
If you’re exercising outside, make sure that you apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a minimum of SPF30 to protect you from the sun’s harmful UV rays which are a major cause of premature ageing and blemishes.
After you’ve exercised, have a shower to wash away the sweat and any dirt or bacteria that you’ve picked up from the gym or the air. If you don’t have time to shower, at least use a cleansing wipe to remove the worst.
If you are reluctant to shower too often due to eczema, it may just be you need to change your product. In a recent article, Doctor Adam Friedman, a Harley Street dermatologist, said that patients with eczema don’t need to cut out swimming or showers as long as they moisturise before. Using a product like Eucerin Aquaphor Soothing Skin Balm will help to protect the skin. You can find the product online here: http://www.lifeandlooks.com/eucerin-aquaphor-soothing-skin-balm.html
Your skin is the biggest organ in the body, and just like the rest of you, it needs hydration. Make sure that you drink plenty of water – drink to thirst, and top up during exercise. Adding an extra glass of water to your day is a simple way to have a powerful effect on your skin.
Exercise can take its toll, but following our simple tips will help keep up with your workout routine whilst protecting your skin. Look after your skin and you will soon see the benefit of the healthy glow that improved circulation gives you. You’ll be looking and feeling great!
