Athletes are taking HGH or Human Growth Hormone for a number of reasons. This hormone, naturally produced by the pituitary gland is associated with the athletic performance of the body by many studies. Previously it was not easy to access growth hormone as it was not manufactured synthetically. However with advancement of the recombinant technology synthetic HGH is readily available. HGH pills and injections are a common sight among athletes. But how exactly HGH works for athletes? Some studies provide the explanation.
Improved athletic performance with HGH
In a study conducted on 103 recreational athletes at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, Sydney, Australia, researchers found that HGH can help to boost the energy required in sprinting sports like swimming and running. The subjects who were between the ages of 18 to 40 years were given HGH, a placebo, and HGH with testosterone randomly in the study.
The study found that with use of HGH supplements the stamina and speed in sports like cycling increased by 5% while those who took HGH with testosterone showed improvement by 8%. However there was no effect on endurance or strength found. Study also found that use of HGH indicated leaner muscle mass and reduced fat in athletes. The side effects like swelling and joint pain were also indicated.
According to Ken Ho, head of pituitary research at Garvan-
“We used lower doses of growth hormone than athletes are reported to use, and for a shorter time. We can speculate, therefore, that the drug’s effects on performance might be greater than shown in this study, and its side effects might be more serious.”
He added, “In conclusion, growth hormone increases athletic sprinting when given alone or in combination with testosterone. This is the first demonstration of improvement in a selective aspect of physical performance with growth hormone. We believe that this effect may bring a competitive advantage to athletes engaging in sprint events.”
What are the benefits?
Synthetic HGH injections are found to result in severe side effects in the long run. For athletes and common people oral formulations like HGH pills and sprays are safer options. With boosted HGH there are number of benefits.
High growth hormone in body helps with fast recovery. Athletes can repair their bones and cartilage wear and tear quickly. It helps to keep fat at bay and enhances metabolism that helps with improving stamina. Athletes using HGH under supervision can benefit with performance in the long run.
